a range of extract options have been developed to enable users to download data for analysis these include six commonly used extracts , and an additional series of advanced extracts extracts menu options the extracts menu enables users to extract data by trial and/or traits the first three extracts are all focused on selection of one or more trials of interest, with no further inputs required to filter results prior to extraction trial layout extract select trial to extract and export trial data counts extract select one or more trial(s) to extract and export single trial and trait extract select trial and trait of interest to extract and export the next three extracts are slightly more complex in that they use a 'strategy for choosing genetic entities', enabling use of genetic entity lists and/or trial selection to filter results extracts using genetic entity selection strategy include where planted extract uses the selection strategy to filter results with users then selecting from a range of file output options to show the number of each genetic entity per trial , additional plant identification and location data genetic entity data extract uses the selection strategy to filter results with users then selecting one or more traits of interest note that breeding values and index information can also be included in this extract if required pedigree data extract the pedigree extract uses an advanced version of the genetic entity selection strategy where users can also choose to extract pedigree data for all selections included within the database or for parents of full sib families this extract also includes options to display the mating design (crosses) for genetic entities within the one or more trials calculate co ancestry statistics calculate in breeding statistics advanced extracts menu options the advanced extracts menu enables users to apply a 'hierarchy' in selection of data for extraction the preferences for this hierarchy are stored within the drilldown options of the user settings, and these can be update to accommodate individual user preferences trial and pedigree data extract this extract lists individual plant or tree observation data from one or more trials, for specified traits and assessment ages it can provide associated pedigree details for the participating genetic entities, and the ancestors of those genetic entities trait counts (by entity) extract this extract lists the number of individual plants or trees assessed (by age) for one or more selected trials and traits plant statistics extract this extract provides basic summary statistics for individual plants or trees assessed (by age) for one or more selected trials and traits trial statistics extract the trial statistics extract provides a range of summary statistics for genetic entities assessed (by age) for one or more selected trials and traits summary statistics extract this extract builds on the trial statistics extract by enabling inclusion of a range of breeding value and index data within a single file basic extract strategies there are three different strategies to assist users to filter data prior to extraction genetic entity list this strategy allows you to create a subset of selections, full sib families and/or seedlots using the 'choose genetic entities' screen by trial this strategy allows you to select all genetic entities within 1 or more trials both this combined strategy enables use of an elected group of genetic entities filtered by trial 1\ "genetic entity list" strategy the genetic entity list option enables you to search and add individual entities, upload a list or select all entities within any given role such as controls or entities under test the add individually option is typically used to find and select a small number of entities and offspring users enter the full name of the genetic entity, click the full sib option (if required) and then add to add the selected genetic entity to the extract query this then displays the selected genetic entity on the rhs of the screen note that there are genetic entities with alternate names that also match the search criteria, then both genetic entities will appear in the list users can use either the trash icon or the remove genetic entities search function (bottom lhs of the screen) to remove genetic entities if required the upload a list option enables uploading of a list of selected genetic entities (by genetic entity name) this list can then be further filtered by use of the genetic entity type option to restrict the list to selections, full sib families or seedlots if required note that the list file must include a column entitled "genetic entity" the message output on the lhs provides a summary of the number of genetic entities loaded, and additional input columns ignored the add by role list option enable selection of genetic entities by experimental role and/or entity type these roles have been included as part of the database on boarding process, and use of this option will enable automatic selection of all genetic entities of that role type 2\ 'by trial' strategy this option enables automatic selection of all genetic entities in one or more selected trials 3\ 'combined' (both) strategy this option enables further filtering of the list data to only include those genetic entities present in one or more selected trials advanced extract strategies there are two main strategies for choosing data for assessment, including selection by inclusion within trials, or selection based on the presence/absence of trait information 1\ hierarchic selection strategies hierarchic combinations are often used to select data by trial and trait, with an example of the default assessment strategy (used by most users) provided below dependent on the options chosen, users can then use the selection strategy wizard, to select trials and traits it is also possible to filter results by age, with options then presented in summary format for selection output screens are then used to define the required extract outputs these vary according to extract type, with the default options included within the optional field settings once the extract has been completed, results are available for viewing, and the extract settings can be saved as a favourite for future use 2\ trial or trait selection strategies users can also choose to filter by trial or traits directly if required this effectively 'skips' the trial/trait/age selection screen shown above, but can result in apparent errors if there has been no data recorded against the trial or trait options selected care is therefore required when using these options, with the interactive trial data report providing a visual overview of the volume of data collected by trait and age for each trial favourites the favourites option enables users to save an extract query, and can be accessed as part of the hierarchic combination list new extract queries can be created and used to update existing favourites if required, or saved as new queries
