the browse genetics menu enables easy access and viewing of genetic data including performance and pedigree data, and also information about the use of ortets within trials and genetic entity search functions breeding values and indexes the breeding value (bv) and index menu option enables access to performance data including breeding values, index values, and statistical estimates of performance the bv and index data is presented according to the 'analysis' used to generate the data they are typically derived from data downloaded from the gem database and analysed for performance of each of the genetic entities across multiple trials and traits (i e breeding values, blup, selection index, subjective ratings) within each of the analyses, results are presented according to trait names and codes these are unique identifiers used within the database to partition data according to analysis and trait it is important to recognise that because there are often differences in the methods used to estimate the performance data, results from different analyses may not be directly comparable the analysis, type and selection trait fields have been introduced to enable use of results in the bvs and indexes interactive report this report enables users to compare and rank results for genetic entities for each selection trait or index derived from that analysis bv and index results can be exported directly from the browse screen and also from the interactive report pedigree data separate browse screens are provided to access pedigree data from selections, half sib families and seedlots each screen then provides links to further information on that entity including selection methods and alternate names (if provided) and usage in trials note that the selection, full sib family, and seedlot browse lists include all the genetic entities in the database ortets present in the database for any of the selections shown will be displayed in the ortet location column information about a specific genetic entity you can click on any genetic entity name that is highlighted (i e hyperlinked) to show more details about the individual genetic entity including additional information available about the genetic entity other names of the genetic entity or parental family (if present) occurrence in trials (if any) information about occurrence in trials a list of trials in which a genetic entity occurs is shown when a genetic entity name is clicked for selections, you can include trials where selection is a parent in a full sib family by using the 'tick box' above the list if the selection occurs as a parent in the full sib family list, the all full sib families on family register with selection as a parent hyperlink, will be shown in the first box to the right of crosses (see example above in information about a specific genetic entity) ortets an ortet is the original plant from which a clone is started through rooted cuttings, grafting, tissue culture, or other means of vegetative propagation the ortets in trials browse screen allows you to view a list of all ortets in the database, showing where they are located (trial and location within trial) and their genetic identity genetic entity search you can search for genetic entities using 'search' under 'browse genetic data' on the left hand menu when a genetic entity name (or part thereof) meets the search criteria, a list with the column headers genetic entity type, genetic entity, and other name appears
