welcome to the gem help site if there is any information that you cannot find or doesn't appear to be documented please contact us at dataservices\@gemnetics com for business and sales enquiries, please contact jude sise at jude\@gemnetics com introduction the gemnetics database platform (gem) is a database designed to manage information from field trials of perennial crops and trees with a special focus on facilitating genetic selection our primary goal is to enable breeders to have their trial data and genetic information ‘at their fingertips’ for direct interpretation and for input into analysis programs gem eliminates the requirement for hours of data manipulation before analyses can be performed our experience is that this leads to faster, more efficient and effective genetic progress gem is designed not only to streamline data storage and retrieval, but also to minimize errors and easily retrieve supporting information supporting information such as assessment methods, trial maps, photos, reports, and a wide range of descriptive information about genetic entities can be stored and easily accessed pedigree information (including co ancestry statistics), and genetic parameters calculated outside of gem are fully integrated with trial data in addition, gem can handle very complex experimental designs, with or without a genetic component the gemnetics database platform is designed to make data queries and output of data very easy and intuitive the opening dashboard provides a high level summary of trial and activity data, with a series of interactive reports developed to enable users to visualize, filter and export data on demand background information the glossary provides descriptions of names and definitions commonly used within the database, with further description of some of the underlying methodologies associated with trial design, data and statistical analyses also provided for reference
